The Den Campaign

Sundering with Friends

While de-unifying the Qadi mountain city of Galastanen, the party discovered and freed a wizard by the name of Sal. With his help they caused civil war in the city, and a fair amount of property damage. from there they caused the kobolds to kill off all of the goblins in the joint swamp city. The last stop on their path brought them to the upper Underdark. There, after several days of religious mockery, they caused chaos, and left the city in complete ruin.

Their mission complete they returned to Den al Farie. Sal became an adviser to King Aurix Maekrix. Gil, Gix, and Skysong stayed in the castle for the next several years. durring that time Gix made masterfully crafted Sword for the three of them and filled the castle armory with not so masterful attempts. thus ended the first chapter of The Den Campaign.

Sundering the Forest Town - Arriving at the Mountain Town

Gill took the potion she had taken from the kobold woman and planted it in the goblin Shaman’s hut. The next day, the kobold woman made it well know that she had been stolen from. every house in the community was searched. Gimrick told the woman that he had looked forward to using the potion with his, and was sad it was gone. she knew he was lying, but did not detect his involvement in the heist. the potion was discovered in the Shaman’s hut. he claimed he didn’t know how it got there but he was not believed. he returned the potion, but the trust between the two races was damaged.
Next Gill seduced a goblin who owned plate armor. She took him into the woods and tried to kill him. He ran away, but met Gix’s blade. They hid his gear, and left him there (pronounce there as th-ear) thus ends the short poem. Durring this Skysong played with the goblin children. She didn’t like this pass time, but accepted it as necessary for their cover. Gill returned to town looking as if she had lay with the shiny goblin. She spread the rumor that she was with child. She then became a more subtle sewer of discord among the goblin women.
the next day Gix, Gimrick, and the kobold archer went hunting the next day. Gix guided them to the the squirrel nest that Gill had hidden the armor in. under the pretense of shooting at a squirrel, Gix shot and struct the armor upon hearing it clang, they investigated and retrieved the armor. They divided it and stashed it back at their dwellings, then went out hunting again. They caught a gopher.
Another kobold hunting party found the dead goblin body. accusations shot back and forth from goblin to kobold and kobold to goblin. Upon inspection of the kobold swords, one of them was found to have blood on it. The goblins demanded that the owner be put to death. the kobolds said they would take care of judgment themselves. With a little push from Gix and Gill all out war broke out between the goblins and kobolds. After making sure the fight was going well, Gill, Gix, Skysong, Gimrick, and Lizzy left. Gix collected his gloves and Gimrick returned to Den al Faerie.
They set off for the former Qadi town of Galastanen. As they neared it, they sent Gix ahead to scout out the kobold side of the city. Gill and Skysong waited a day outside before coming into the city. They took up residence in an empty house in the Goblin district.

Making Rings and Breaking Treaties

After capturing the kobold and the goblins, Gil, Gix, and Skysong returned to Den Al Faerie. There the king had the enchanters make the polymorph rings. The king also added the silver dragonborn Gimrick saying both that he was a loan from King Orn, and that he was using him for this mission as a favor for King Orn. After a week of waiting. Gill, Gix, Gimrick, and Skysong used the Polymorph rings and set off for the ruins of Den Al Qualinesti. after two days of travel they came to the city. they first went to the Kobold leader and told him that the Goblin leader wanted to take the his treasure. The kobold leader was outraged, and vowed to defend what little he had. Then they went to the went to the goblin leader and told him that the Kobold intended to to siege the goblins and take the pearl that the goblin acquired of late. indignant, the goblin leader demanded that they prepare for siege. on the advice of Drogil, the Goblin leader also sent raiders at the kobold housing to take their treasure. After the stage was set, Gimrick set the plan in motion. He, while looking like the kobold leader, took a kobold hunting hunting party out. After the party left, the goblins moved in to take the treasure. They were then attacked by the kobolds that stayed behind. Gimrick told his hunting party to make a charge at the goblins’ main building. After some discusion the kobolds finally set to attack the goblins. As they ran to the goblin base, Gimrick left the party and changed out of his disguise. he, Gil, Gix and Skysong rendezvoused outside of the city. Gimrick said he need to get his stuff from inside the city. the party went to the kobolds’ base. To get his items out of the back room, Gimrick, in dragonborn form, put goblin form Gil thought the window. At the same time the Kobolds retreated to the back room from the advancing goblins. As she picked up Gimrick’s armor and sword the kobolds spotted her. she ran as fast as she could. She requested urgently for Gix to pull her out. He did so before she was attacked by the kobolds. as this was happening, Gimrick untied his lizard from the front of the building. Two goblins came to investigate. Gimrick let go of the lizards ropes and told it to attack the goblins. It did so. After Gix and Gill arrived to help, the two goblins were quickly killed. Gill, Gix, Gimrick, Skysong, and Lizzy (the lizard) left while the goblins and kobolds where still fighting.

They made their way into the Forest on to the next objective location. once inside the town. Gimrick proved his value to the kobolds by besting their leader in combat. After this Gimrick sighed on as his personal body guard. Gil and Skysong went to the goblin shaman of the town and said that they were refugees from the port town. They said that the kobolds there had subjugated the goblins. Skysong gave a convening teary eyed warning that the same thing would happen there and many of the goblins were willing to consider the threat. Gimrick leaned that the kobolds possessed the all of the potions in the town. he pretended like he had had a bad potion at one time and suggested that the kobolds let him check to make sure that their potions weren’t bad. The kobolds agreed and Gimrick leaned the location of one of the potions. He told this to Gil. That night she snuck into the kobolds hows and took the potion from her nightstand.

City Arrival - Goblin/Kolbold-napping

After packing up their transportable supplies, Gil, Gix, and Skysong set off for Den al Faerie. four uneventful days of travel brought them there. Once in town they spent the evening with Gil’s parents. Before going to bed Gix was able to teach Dempsey to guard his thoughts against being mind read. the rest of the evening, the night and the next morning passed uneventfully. Once finished with Breakfast and other preparations, Gix, Gil, and Skysong trekked up to the castle. A guard instructed them to go to the great hall to voice their complaint or concern to the King’s Steward. Gil told him that the were there by request of the king. The guard was skeptical. Gil told him to ask the king, using the telepathic connection she had seen the King use with the Steward. the Guard became even more skeptical, because he did not know the king possessed this power. A messenger came down, and said that they were in fact invited by the king. The guard let them pass. They ascended to the top of the tower. They entered the throne room. On the thrown was seated the king. he stood and welcomed them in. He helped them get situated in the rooms provided them in the castle. when they had determined their rooms of choice, and to keep their treasure trove in Gil’s room, the king gave them a tour of the castle. He gave them necklaces that signified they were of the court, so as to avoid future confusion with the guards. He told them to meet him in the sitting room after they had a look around the castle
In the sitting room, Gil, Gix and Skysong met wit the king and a youthful looking middle aged elven woman with large Blue eyes and shiny pale skin. Gil asked for an introduction, and the king introduced the woman as Vorel the queen. and he further gave his own name as Aurix Maekrix. He then went on to describe Gil and Gix’s mission. he summed up the threat of the Goblins and Kobolds. He he gave new information about how he has tricked the Goblins and Kobolds into taking magically tracked gems. using these magical gems he determined that there were five primary basses of the Goblin/Kobold alliance. In order in infiltrate these location to “sew seeds of discord” Gix, Gil, and Skysong would have to be poly-morphed into Goblin and Kobold forms. To properly enchant this spell on a ring with a a good level accuracy, the King instructed Gil and Gix to kidnap a goblin and a Kobold alive. He give them directions to know goblin and kobold hunting grounds. he also gave them a magical recording device and told them to use it to get a sample of the Goblin and Kobold speak patterns in normal context.
The next morning Gix, Gil, and Skysong (because she didn’t want to be bored alone in the castle) headed north across the wasteland to the river. a day and a half of traveling brought them to a band of Goblins and Kolbolds who were celebrating the kill of a boar. the party activated the recording device and hid behind some nearby trees. the Goblins and Kobolds carried their kill across the river and to their camp. Gil, Gix, and Skysong followed the Goblins and Kobolds to their camp. When the monsters finished eating they all slept in their makeshift camp. after they had been sleeping a while Gil, sneaked into their camp and tries to kill some of them while they were sleeping. Failure to move silently awoke some of the Kobolds. Gil struck at the nearest one. Gix and Skysong shot arrows at the awakening enemies. the battle continued and the party was able to take one Kobold and one Goblin alive, but much blood was spilled on both sides. they tied up the monsters and began the trek home.

The Portal Opens - Packing up

With the bodies looted, Gix healed himself and trance meditated for a full 24 hours. For the next several days there was no sign of kobold or Goblin activity. The party relaxed a little. One day at noon time, Skysong went to the front of the cave for fresh air. When she didn’t return Gix and Gil went looking for her. Gix smelled a familiar scent from one of the corners of the cave. Investigating he and Gil found newly formed tunnel. they saw sunlight at the other end. Gil called for Skysong, but got no response. They knocked arrows and advanced up the cave. at the mouth of the cave they found a small hill. Beyond the hill was a large valley. Though the overcast prevented some vision, they were able to find Skysong at the top of the hill. Skysong was staring transfixed at the other end of the valley. Gix and Gil looked to see what was there. They saw a giant reptilian monster. Though afraid Gix and Gil were able to steer Skysong back into the cave. when they reached their living space Gix told Gil that the monster they had seen was called The Tarrasque, the consumer of dead worlds. He also hypothisized that they had traveled through a portal to the dying world of Denaldraconus. While listening to the information, Gil heard canting from outside the cave. When she and Gix checked on it, they found a kobold shaman standing over their cave. with three arrows the shaman dropped. Gix searched the shaman’s body and found a carved wooden anchor along with the normal loot. the obvious magical nature of the anchor convinced Gix that this is what held the portal open. knowing that it would not be too volatile. he destroyed the anchor in the forge. It sizzled, popped and burnt. the portal remained open. At dinner the next day, Gix suggested that they make metal grates to close off the new side tunnel. They also talked about perhaps moving to the another location, but this idea was put to the side since their cave was still very defensible. They did however decide to get a magic ring made for Skysong so she could remain is elven form for prolonged periods of time. Gil decided to set out the next day to get the ring made in Den Al Faerie (the Grey Elf City she had lived in during the war). before they finished eating there was a big boom from the front of the cave. they heard swearing in an unfamiliar tongue. when they reached the mouth of the cave, they found the front of the forge blown off. Running away from the cave where three goblins. one was still on fire, and the other two were singed. Gil and Gix killed two of them. the last one got away. Gil agreed to stay one day while Gix repaired the forge.
Three and a half days brought Gil within half a day of the city. At this point on the road Gil met a man who greeted her as “Elf.” She was taken aback and asked what he was that he would refer to her as “elf.” He said he was a dragon. She doubted him. he said he wished to train her to use her innate magic. She wanted to know how he knew she had magic. he simply pointed to himself and said magic. She asked what he was to get out of the deal. He said he wished her to help him take care of a dragon problem. She had no wish to kill dragons, and turned him down. He said he would prove he was a dragon and give her a better reason to take his offer when she returned this way after visiting the town. Gil went on.
Once admitted into the town. Gill bunked with her family at the Trading Post (her father Einrí, elder brothers Dálach and Dempsey, and younger brother Aoilfe). The next morning she visited the enchanter Powers who worked with his mother Meallán. Gil gave him the specification for the ring and the silver to make it out of. He told her the cost of the ring, 6,000 GP. Gil extricated the coinage required from her bosom where she had it hidden. This answered the question in Power’s mind about her unusually large chest (a large chest in it’s own right bit made larger by the hidden coins)before leaving the shop Gil was told about the bounty the king’s palace had put on the Goblins and Kobolds. She went up to the castle to see about the bounty. After a three hour wait she met with the king’s steward. he was a rough dressed man with an attitude. after talking about the bounty for a short time the bounty, the steward seemed to take a long time to decide what to say. He then tells Gil to go out the door to the left and go to the top floor. from there she was to go to the front of the castle and enter the big double doors. As she left the Great hall she heard the steward comment on his dislike of chickens. She also heard one flutter about as it entered the room behind her.
When she arrived at her destination, she found herself in a large, marble throne room. Seated on the throne was the King bedecked in golden colored clothing. He greated Gil by her full name and gave her the titles of Goblin Slayer and Dragon Chosen. He recognized that the Amethyst Dragon had chosen Gil specifically during the fight at Den Al Fearie. He asked Gil if she was interested in carrying out a series of missions for him that would hopefully destabilize the alliance between the kobolds and goblins. Gil asked what her compensation would be. He told her he would provide room and board in the top floor of the castle and 20 gold per week, per member of her adventuring party. She declined gold reimbursement in favor of payment in gems. The king asked if she had then agreed to take the job. Gil answered that she needed a month to think it over and talk with her group. She also told the king about the portal that formed in the cave. The king told her the history of how the walls between the worlds is getting thinner and now even a kobold shaman can open a hole. The king dismissed her from the room. Gil attempted a curtsy and left.
After picking up the ring from Powers (who she nicked nicknamed Pow pow) Gil returned on her way home. A days travel south she saw a new hill. from behind the hill a dragon’s head emerged. It’s tail unfurled as it turned to Gil. the dragon asked if she believed him now. She said yes and asked him to return to human form. He did so. he told her that he needed her to do subterfuge against four Chromatic dragons Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green. She wondered why he would look to her for help. He said he needed the kind of sneakiness found only in small beings like herself. She questioned why she’d put herself into harms way for him. He let her know that she was already in harms way. He further stated that on her way home she would pass through two dragon hunting grounds. The loose dirt of the Yellow dragon and the shaded cliffs of the Blue dragon. When questioned about his trustworthiness, he admitted that he wasn’t. But that he still had need of her and that would keep him from turning on her. She told him she’d need a month to think it over. she walked on the rest of her trip weary of the dragons nearby.
when she arrived home she told Gix and Skysong all that she done and seen in the city. Gix agreed to the kings offer. Skysong liked the idea as well. When Gil mentioned the dragon on the road, Gix was able to identify it as a brown dragon. he knew that the dragon would not be trust worthy for too long, but that he would keep his word while she still profited him. having set the course to go to the town, they began to pack.

Together Droegil and Darastrix raised Skysong. When Skysong became Very Young (an age measurement of dragons), Drogil discovered a decline in the animal populace. Welcome to your campaign!
A blog for your campaign

Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

That’s it! The rest is up to your and your players.
